this is a comment i received from a person called Jijo for my last post :-
“Good to hear that.. i have a request .. PLEASE DINT COPY OR IMITATE ANY HINDI MOVIE SONGS OR MOVIES LIKE YOUR DID IN MALARVAADI CLIMAX. ROCK ON WAS A COMPLETE DIFFERENT GENRE AND INCORPORATING THAT TO MALARVAADI WASNT A GOOD IDEA. so with this next work of yours, please be original and try to sing in one or two songs in your film. better if you sang only one song. singing in everything makes your sound boring to us. so please preserve that uniqueness of your sound by limiting the number of songs in your movies at least.”
truely genuine concerns u ve jijo.. that’s y i thought i owe u an explanation.. when i was writing the final draft of malarvaadi, i definitely knew the climax song situation was similar to that of Rock On. but the more i was trying to change it, the more artificial and fabricated it was appearing. of course i knew that people are going to blame me for this resemblance. but i had to do justice to my subject. every other way, this was not happening. it definitely was not a compromise to go with it. it was the best choice i had.
talking about “Originality,” i would like to quote something one of the most acclaimed film dirs’ of malayalam cinema once told me personally. [can’t tell his name though]
Originality is ‘how u hide ur source!!!’
we use the word originality way too much.. it’s totally over rated. i don’t believe in that word though i myself would ve used it at times, like any other person. art is always inspired from something or the other. it might be from people u meet, travelling u do, books u read, movies u watch… ur life itself. i believe only the extent of inspiration can determine whether it’s a copy or not.. again, this is relative.. when 3 idiots was made, chetan bhagat believed it’s completely his novel and its details. but raj kumar hirani believed, it’s their own and they ve just taken elements from chetan’s book. i would go with raj kumar hirani coz i ve read the novel and seen the film. in my opinion, the novel of course was entertaining, but the movie was enlightening!! that’s y i said, these views are all relative.
my film is definitely not going to be inspired from any particular scene of any film intentionally. but there are a lot of inspirations from life this time, more than malarvaadi.
u r not going to see anything that u have not heard about, or been through, or seen in love stories so far. even my film will ve all those classic cliches that u ve come across a million times. only the angle of thought or the approach towards the subject ll be different.. and i am praying that u like that difference.. if u like it,apparently u ll enjoy it.. i can’t imagine what ll happen otherwise.. it obviously scares me.
but about my singing, i am surely going to take ur opinion seriously. 🙂 too much of my singing ll definitely bore people. this time, i ll limit myself to just one!! incase my music dir insists, max.. 2!!! that’s my word to u jijo.
Thanks again for ur genuine concerns. I know ur views are not show offs.. thank u everyone else for showing so much interest in my film. I think I should quit checking my blog while I am writing my script. Expectations are most literally scaring me!!
vineeth.. who else??
