a piece of me..

Hi guys,
Hope u r all having a great time.. wish u all a great football season. I wouldn’t be able to follow the matches closely this time coz we ve got loads of work happening with “malarvaadi” right now.. Infact the expectation is too much that working with a cool head has become almost impossible now.. {still, trying to.. :-)}
Malarvaadi ‘s music has fetched great reviews from all over. But I am not here to talk about that. A few people ve got this feeling that I ve this intoxication for doing everything on my own. So i felt certain things ve to be clarified..
Talking about lyrics, approaching an experienced lyricist and getting our work done was easy. But what we wanted in this film was different. All the songs in Malarvaadi [except kashmalan] are part of the film’s screenplay. While writing the film, I always tried not to bring literature into the conversation of characters, coz in real life we don’t do so. Things ve to be straight.. that’s exactly what we tried in lyrics also.. “straight writing” .. no simile, no metaphors, no poetic references.. just the matter.. so that the songs will go hand in hand with the screenplay.. I ve seen lyricists like Prasoon Joshi [Rang de Basanti, Delhi 6], Javed Akthar [Rock On] and Abbas Tyrewala [Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na] doing it in hindi. I ve a lot of love for my language. We ve not used a single English word in any song. There is a definite thought behind every song and it has all been approached with sincerity.
Right now, we r working on the back ground music of our film. Like I said before, doing the conventional stuff is easy and less time consuming. But we ve decided to experiment here to. Of course its risky. But, at the age of 25, when I ve got my vein and blood full of cinema, if I am not ready to experiment, then……… then I shouldn’t be doing this, right?

You are absolutely right…we never talk like that in real life…then why in movies and serials we must hear such dialogues…regarding the lyrics..let me be frank vineeth etta….the first time when i heard the songs i was really surprised …especially mangalam koodan…felt odd when i listened it first time…but let me tell you i cant stop listening to MAC songs now..i am listening it 24/7 …Inoree mazhayil lyrics are really beautiful that ..it shows the real poet in you…beautiful…This is not the words from a fan…this is the words from a true music lover…Special thanks to shaan chetan for the great compositions…

Vineeth etta…As i have wrote in the community description of your Orkut fans page…your Midas touch and uniqueness in all your works makes you different from others..and we are the followers of that change…You are a Sakala Kala Vallabhan… 🙂 Farhan Akthar of keralites(kiddin)… 😉 he he… 😛

Vineeth etta…one humble request…please release more Photos and Video Songs of MAC soon…cant wait to see how you picturised these beautiful songs…especially Inoree mazhayil and Manyamaha Janangale…

    Devan… 🙂

    Hi Vineeth,
A meaningful, rhythemic, poetic song will always be remembered forever. I fraklyof the opinion that you should have hired a lyricist for atleast one song so that your movie will be remembered for that good song. Definitely you should experiment and that is hoe you get experience. But next time, please hire a lyricist/poet to create one good song. Don’t try to be the jack of all!!

I liked the songs in the movie though.. But as i said, atleast one should have the right punch to be rememberd forever.

If you see Priya darsan’ movies, all songs ad picturisation will be extremely good. But will he write them? No! Do you think he is incapable of doing it after all he writes all those scripts. So pl Go figure:) 🙂

very nice songs…cant stop listening to them…but as some of them really feel bad about the lyrics and the songs,i think these ppl will write and compose a song and then show u how to make songs….they are very good at finding faults i am pretty sure they can write wonderful lyrics and compose amazing music…give them a chance vineethetta….

        Dear Deepak,
A good critic is never a good composer. For example, How many literary critics you know, who are good writers / poets? None. Same way good players never make good coaches. It all comes within the gene. OK? SO challenging those who criticize is not the best thing. Those who praise a bad work is doing damage to the creator. He will always be in a fools paradise, so chill.

      • June 18, 2010 at 8:17 pm

You scored again.you are 100% correct.i believe viewers have got the right to express their views about a movie. We are not robots who buys tickets and watch movies and then go back satisfied with what ever is given to us.
I doubt some of these crazy fans will ruin this talented young man just as they did to some senior artists of malayalam film industry.

Thx for the support. I think very few of us see the things in that perspective. You just exactly said it that these aye-sayers will ruin this highly talented young man, by always praising him, without ever giving it a second thought. Thank god, at least some of us still have some sense of modicum, and keep the things in check.

thats right chetta… but i ve one thing to ask.. that is you and shaan rahman conducte the singer hunt for this project and got them too.. yet , in all songs there is a ” vineeth sreenivasan ” tag attached.. not for one or two, but most of them..was that a prt of the marketing strategy for the audio ??? i felt that could have been avoided.. your voice is different and that too is not heard in all the songs being released inthe industry.. hence, there is a freshness for it when you hear it only in couple of projects.. malaravadi has broken that routine also it seems.. anyways hoping for the best from YOU always… GOOD LUCK..

    Hey Vineeth,

Glad to see you are looking in to the criticism open minded and set your explanation. I wouldn’t say the weak point was not using ‘complexity/colloquial usage’ words. Songs such as ‘pacha panam thathee’, ‘Ente Kalbile’ such recent hits are composed with very simple words. However a little bit more poetic lyrics would have boosted the songs and might have helped to gain the attention of senior audience say a 40+ yrs group as well. Being said that, this was felt just for 1-2 songs and in that itself only few stanzas (and its just my personal opinion).

All songs have a refreshing mood, and many songs(‘Manya maha’, ‘Changaayi’) are added to my ‘continuous listening’ set. Great job done on music and vocals (I do not agree being your voice is more prominent is a negative as many said, its really enjoyable).

End of the day, we (me and my friends) wish to see this venture a grand success as it would be win of the generation and would be win of out of box thinking. Good luck. Eagerly waiting for the release!

    Hi Vineeth,
Everyone likes experements. When an experement is success, it will be remembered for a long time. When it goes dud, it stays in the closet. You get what I am saying? Just for the sake of experement, don’t experement.
And knowing you from the past ventures, I don’t doubt your integrity or ability to create magic. As one post said, you have that midas touch!
Another observation is not every song is an evergreen one. It’s for it’s exclusivity, those are ervergreen. Once in a blue moon they happens. So I wish your film songs will be just the same.

    Wish you all the success.

After watching the movie…i don’t about the rest of the comments here…but i think its a Malayalam version of Rock On. But while telling this I have to admit that first 45 minutes gave the same thrill as in the Mammooty and Mohanlal movies of 1980’s and90’s, i.e., cut out from real life. Hats off to your guts for experimenting with new comers and to Dileep also!
