Q & A..

People say that when u r extremely excited or thrilled or emotional about ur life and happenings, words don’t come easy. I am facing a similar situation. I ve been trying to write for the past half an hour but most of the time, the key that I ve been using is “backspace” 🙂  Seriously, I am laughing at myself right now.

I ve been having some wonderful moments for the past few days. Recording session of “malarvaadi” was beyond crazy. I don’t want  to say much and raise your expectations anymore. I am just hoping that my instincts wouldn’t go wrong. Lets see!!

By the way, I had an interesting comment on my last post by “ghostneguz”. He wanted me to answer a few questions that he had. I felt I should do so coz it was interesting.

These were the questions that he had..

1) how do u handle such expectations with ur debut movie since u r sreenivasan’s son?…u may say “avoid comparisons”,but its a fact that 90% of the people will not follow tat….u see the tag of sreenivasan’s son as a blessing or a burden?

2) i am sure u could have easily approached mohanlal using ur dad’s script.but u r starting off with a newcomer’s film.now is tat to make a statement of “independence”?

3) sreenivasan mentioned in many interviews tat he rarely used to have complete script b4 the shooting commence.wat ur opinion abt this?…mind u!! ur dad n lohi sir were quite success following that.

4) heard tat pranav mohanlal is there in this movie?…is it true or just a rumour?

Now my answers:-

1)      expectation is scary. But at the same time, it’s a very positive thing. It makes you more responsible. That’s one reason why I take my screenplay almost every alternate day and do corrections to come out with something better. Tag of sreenivasan’s son is definitely a blessing. “Self identity craze” is actually a disease. I am in this world because of him. Whatever I am today is because of my parents. I am proud of my lineage. Comparison is a good thing actually. You ll develop the desire to raise your own standards when that happens. I am 100% genuine on what I am saying. Not that I am not seeing the other side of things. I like to stay positive..

2)      I am not here to make any statements bro’. I am here to do things that I love. What’s the challenge in using my father’s script and climbing the easy way up? He is what he is because of his hard work. I believe in hard work. That’s y I thought of writing it myself. Of course, i had my father’s guidance all the way. The process itself is amazing. I always wanted to do my debut film with newcomers, for so many reasons. Freshness, novelty, adventure… I can go on…  🙂  [I would love to do movies with senior stars, but only when I ve something interesting for them.]

3)      First of all, I ll tell u the advantages of having the script beforehand. Planning becomes easier. All the actors and crew members will have a clear picture of what they are doing. A finished script will help reducing the budget a lot. Now that’s a very important thing as far as Malayalam movies are concerned. When u ve an incomplete script, it might or might not work. There is always a risk.

4)      I am really sorry, I can’t reveal anything on the star cast of the movie right now. You might ve a few surprises.  🙂

Ist of all…Thanx 4 replying 2 my questions..n special publicity :D…i have been a loyal fan of malayalam films for past 20 years. But I am bit concerned abt the current situation of malayalam movies…Its mainly due 2 change in audience attitude…Last year we happened to see many brilliant movies like Bhramaram,Loudspeaker,Kerala Cafe,Palerimanikyam,Pazhassiraja,Ividum Swargamaanu etc..But majority of the audience doesn’t watch these movies..there was a time when audience accepted these movies wholeheartedly..But now the situation has changed… People only want entertainment n preferably mindless entertainment.I don’t want to name those movies but i am quite sure tat u have a certain idea abt the movies i am referring to.

Last year a movie named “Rithu” was released. Its one of the best movies of that year n also the best movie i have seen from tamil, telugu, hindi n malayalam combined in recent times. But somehow the audience isn’t taking an effort to see this movie n neither theaters are supporting these movies by giving some breathing space. If they see the movie is not pulling a certain initial, they will replace it with some other movie (most probably a Tamil or Telugu Dubbed). Now U R going to make a movie with newcomers. With the current environment,do u think commercially viable?

P:S – If by chance, the film doesn’t get support from the audience…Do one Thing…Put some attractive posters saying..”Ee Padam Teluguvil 500 days oodiya Super Mega Hit padam”…after all tats the current trend 😀

    • January 28, 2010 at 11:10 am

i agree with u ghostneguz.. palerimanikyam was one of my fav films last year. its a shame that movies like that are not doing well at the box office.. again the question that u raised is very valid.. i thought of answering this and then i saw ur comment underneath.. u ve answers for ur own questions bro’ i ll just copy- paste it 🙂

“WE” should encourage such projects for the sake of malayalam film industry…but the “WE” shouldn’t stay with 100-200 people….The “WE” should be MASSIVE so tat such Fresh Projects do get the Reception it requires n thus opens the door for fresh ideas n makers for a better future. [:)]

haha…but seriously,i am not satisfied with tat reply…because tats wat every director (be it newcomers or known faces) expect from people…but the current situation is that the voice of “we” is quite feeble for such projects…after all we hope by the time the movie releases, the the “we” be louder!!!

when i went to watch “Notebook” on the first day (as expected empty seats),i happen to witness two situations which later somewhat affected the movie.

        1) the attitude of mass.no matter how well or important a particular scene is (mostly emotional),the audience will just boo it down for no reason.plus u can hear some vulgarized comments n finally when the movie is over -> a verdict “thallipoli padam”.no matter how well you conceive the film,a majority in mass just makes the viewing uncomfortable n thus makes it a sign of discouragement for other audience to watch this film.

        2) lack of encouragement given to such movies by the theaters.i have mentioned this in my previous post.mohanlal mentioned abt restricting the other language films mass release in kerala which was misquoted or taken as a publicity tool (avatar n vettaikaran used this quote for their publicity).

actually this was the question i actually asked in my previous post.

Plus wat abt making it a bilingual since other states do provide encouragement to such newcomer fils…at least more than our keralam?

Hi Vineeth. i was just reading the conversation between you and ghostneguz. You were asking why the films like rithu, bhramaram,…… fails in the box office though they discussed with serious subjects. The answer is simple the malayalee audience love the treatment of serious subject through humourosway, not the serious subject in the serious way. So the director should forseen this and craft the movie according to the audience. The example is vadakkunokkiyanthram, chandupottu, sandesham… see the subject is serious but the treatment will be through comedy and leads to a hit.

Haha ghostneguz I really enjoyed reading your reply to this bog (just as much as reading vineeth sir’s answers). I have to say I’m in agreement with ghostnequz and give a hats off to Vineeth sir for producing a movie with newcomers. It’s what the industry needs.. fresh stories, fresh people. And I believe audience will accept it because they did with neelathamara.

From one movie fan to another,
wishing both of you the best =)

i think it was worth answering ghostneguz….and i realley liked the way u answered the first question….actually being asreenivasans son sometimes can be blessing and sometimes can be burden as well ..but i truely dosent belive in it if u got the talent u willso it is basically based on how we carry the tag…(action speks louder than words) and that iw wt u r doing …your action is always louder than ur words that proves that u r a guy who is not going to stop with 1 movie wonder i am sure you will be doing 100 of wonderfull movie in future ..u will be a great sucess …but wt malayalam industry is missing is proper story ..hope u will bring out somrthing to really think about…i think ur one of the diamond i the malayalam industry……

by the way i will send u my protfolio to your email adress as soon as possible i was not bale to send it past two days …sorry for that i was busy with my engeneering course…..you know i am sure that u wont ignore my mail..i am ready to wait ….patience is the key…you are my hope now..you know wt i still cant belive that i am communicating with a legend like you ..wt to say “MY LUCK” AND IF U NEED I COULD SEND YOU A VIDEO OF MY AUDITION………..

    HI Vineeth etta…
I was really waiting for this…Want ask some questions to you.. 😀

Q1. Will you act in movies again? or will you just continue with singing and direction…?
Q2. In your Orkut profile i saw ur status as committed… 😀 [Not asking who it is as it is too much personal]… So just tell me when your marriage will be and will you call me for that?? 😀

Q3. Who is your favorite heroine? [Please dont skip this question? 😛 Please…]

Q4. Do you think shooting songs for a movie outside India is waste of money? and will something like dat will be thr n Malarwadi?

Q5. Whats the budget planned of Malarwadi Arts Club… 😉 [Hope u wnt keep it as a secret]

Ok thats it..just five for now…More attacking questions coming soon…:P

    Enne kollalle chetaa… for that second question… 😦 😀

    hey vineeth!!

hop ur havin a great time!!!as i said earlier abt the live performance.. rather than in the process of thinkin y don v jote down the “Plan Of Action” so that it comes in to a reality feast for our eyez!!i kno u wud b very much busy wit kind off schedule ur runnin thru.. as ur doin a multitaskin job in ur own movie!!but still better late than neve.. wil make the musik releas with the live performance~~jus wanted this idea shared wit u~~ u mit have already ran thru these ideas!! jus make note of this as a request!!

***And abt improvin malayalam movies!! i totally agree with the “”WE”” concept increasing the masses of ppl..it creates a huge impact on the movie.. jus wit a single & simple statement “thallipolli padam” it reflects on the handwork of the movie.. and also nowadays loads of masala is gettin added to the mallu movies.. don u guys feel that!! most of the ppl nowadays go fot the movies dependin on the star cast!![for ex : there is a lot of difference in Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha & pazhazzi raja..the latest movies doesn have the STUD lik the old one had ..Oru Vadakkan veeragatha Had its perfection and an excellent Script!!]..am Glad that Ppl whole heartedly welcomed “rithu” which was one good super movie!!passenger was one another movie which i liked in the previous year!!

Anyways hope everythin goes great with malayalam movies!!!all the best for all out there!!

Lets make a better Audience this time!!

hi…i know you may not be the right person to these questions with 100% authority, just because of sheer curiosity,i would like to ask you these 3 questions

    1) Is there any chance of seeing Sathyan Anthikad-Sreenivasan-Mohanlal combination in near future??…Its been more than 20 years of waiting to see a movie from this combi..Hope there is no problem among them

    2) I am sure U have encountered this question many times..But still couldn’t resist myself from asking this…Naadodikaattu 4???….heard tat Roshan n James Albert r planning 4 it….But as loyal fan,we really wanted to see this from Ur Dad’s hand n Sathyan’s visuals..So any chances for Dasan n Vijayan to come back??

    3) Why don’t U suggest Sreenivasan sir to open a blog n interact with us?..I am sure many (sometimes more than u [:)]) will b following his blog if he begins one

    • February 2, 2010 at 4:08 am

      1. there is absolutely no problem between them as far as i know.. i am also waiting to see a film in this combination.. certain things ve to happen.. lets wait..
      2. its really tough to make a good screenplay with dasan and vijayan in today’s time. roshan chettan and james ettan had tried, but didn’t work out i guess.. infact so many people ve tried.. i think the chances are less [i wish if i was wrong!!]
      3. i ve already spoken to him about blogging- about the whole sharing of views and interacting with people. he seemed to be interested. but, he is still not very comfortable with computers. dragging him into something is impossible. he ll do it only if he really feels like..

    Dear Vineeth,
Since you are the son of the great man, the middle aged & the old expect you to be in the same line as that of your father. Whereas the youth expect you to be their icon, especially, with the release of your films & fun packed songs.
In these times, when the youth has no role models, can i expect you to be theirs? I know, the responsibility is very high. But taking advantage of the celibrity value you & ur father & the moral support of your fans, ur creative thinking, God blessed talent 4 entertaining mass audience, i urge u to be an IDOL of a malayali. U can bcom Vineeth.

Late to reply here, but hey, better late than never right 🙂

Good questions and equally good answers! It is always important to see things from ones point of view innit?? and that difference in approach is what makes things different. Wishing you all the best Vineeth, God bless!

@ ghostneguz. Totally agree with you about how certain films are treated or ‘received’ (eh?) by the mass. I loved the movies ‘Rithu’ and ‘Notebook’, its sad that these movies did not click. Wonder why sometimes people sulk their faces when they very well know that this is what actualy happens around them or may be it is something they call ‘kapada sadacharam’ he he. Whatever the cause be, it is high time people learned to appreciate movies which are different than those cliched ones!

Once again wishing Vineeth all the very best!

    • March 5, 2010 at 8:06 pm

thanks again.. i agree with ur views.. sometimes even i ve felt that people should be a little more liberal towards film viewing. when it comes to malayalam cinema, our audience are too critical. movies like paleri manikyam should ve had bigger response in theatres. we should appreciate such daring attempts.
